No. 18 Women's Lacrosse Set To Host The First Round Of NCAA's In Its Seventh Consecutive Appearance

PITTSFORD, N.Y.– The St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team will once again play in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament for the seventh consecutive season on Sunday. Earning an automatic berth after winning the Empire 8 Championship over Stevens last Saturday, the Cardinals earned the right to host the opening round games at Growney Stadium. Fisher will take on the winner of Saturday's first round matchup between Wesleyan University and Messiah College. Saturdays opening round tilt will start at 1 p.m. at Growney Stadium and will be followed by Sundays game also at 1 p.m.

The Streak Continues:The women's lacrosse team recently won its seventh straight Empire 8 Conference Championship with a 14-6 win at Stevens last Saturday. Other than the consecutive conference championship streak, the Cardinals are currently riding a 12 game win-streak that dates back to March 31st. Fisher as accumulated a perfect 9-0 record at home and will look to continue their streaks when they host an NCAA Tournament game for the first time since the 2016 season. 
 
Rollin With Bollin: Senior Claire Bollin has been having a memorable all-around season for the Cardinals. The Webster, N.Y. native was named the Empire 8 Championship's Most Valuable Player last weekend after tallying four goals, three assists, eight ground balls, four caused turnovers, and 16 draw controls over the two games versus Nazareth and Stevens. Bollin currently leads the team in points with 61, while also holding her own in the draw control circle leading the conference in draw controls with 111. 
 
Protecting The Goal: Fisher goalkeeper Morgan Hayes has started in 11 games for the Cardinals and has won all 11. The sophomore has compiled a goals against average of 5.23 and has made 31 saves thus far. Along with the Fisher defense, which is led by Molly Tice, Hayley Maguire, Logan Chase, and Erin Mills, the back line of Fisher will look to continue its dominance moving forward. 
 
The Eymer Touch: Mallory Eymer has been a force so far this postseason for the Cardinals. The sophomore has tallied 40 goals so far in 2018, which includes nine goals in the Cardinals two postseason matchups versus Nazareth and Stevens. Along with Bollin, Kelsie, Schindler, and Mackenzie LeVan, the Fisher offense looks to keep its scoring touch rolling. 
 
Scouting Messiah: The Falcons from Messiah College, have compiled a 15-3 overall record in 2018 and recently have been crowned the champions of the Middle Atlantic Conference. Offensively Messiah is led by Courtney Wagner, who has totaled 47 goals, 36 assists, and 83 points this season. Along with Annika Johnsen and McKenna Edwards who have each scored 40 and 28 goals respectively. Defensively, the Falcons are led by Kendra Herbenar who has caused a team-high 55 caused turnovers, while goalkeeper Amber Orner has made 57 saves this season and has won 13 of 16 games she has started in. Earlier in 2018, Messiah and Nazareth played in a non-conference matchup on the team's Spring Break trip, with the Falcons coming out victorious 10-5. 
 
Scouting Wesleyan: The Cardinals from Wesleyan University received an at-large bid into the NCAA Division III Women's lacrosse Tournament, after compiling a 10-6 record and falling in the NESCAC Quarterfinal. Wesleyan are led by Abigail Horst and Abby Manning who have each found the back of the net 34 and 31 times respectively. Defensively, the Cardinals are led by Jordan Ansell, Amy Breitfeller, and Caroline Sgaglione who have each tallied 16 caused turnovers apiece. Goalkeeper Allegra Grant has started all 16 games, has made 151 saves with a 10-6 overall record. Looking back, the Cardinals has a non-conference matchup with Stevens earlier this season, where the Ducks took home the win by a score of 10-9. The only other time that Fisher and Wesleyan have met in women's lacrosse, was back in 2009 with Wesleyan taking home the victory 13-10
