ELMIRA, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's tennis team wrapped up its 2018 campaign with a 9-0 sweep of Elmira College. The Cardinals finished out their year with a 7-9 overall record, and a 6-2 conference standing. The Soaring Eagles dropped to 2-9 on the year, and fell to 2-6 in the conference.
Senior Kevin Kulawiec and his teammate Dustin McCullough dominated first doubles with an 8-1 victory over their opponents, before Jonathan Harper and Jordan O'Connell took the 8-6 win in second doubles.
Third doubles would look the same for Fisher with John Miller and Jarrett Pelton earning the win with a final score of, 8-2.
Kulawiec started out first singles only letting up a single set with final scores of 6-1, 6-0. Miller followed suit with two 7-5 scored wins in second singles.
McCullough stayed strong also giving up only a single set to his Soaring Eagle opponent in third singles, while Harper took over fourth singles with scores of 6-4, 6-1.
The Cardinals kept the foot on the pedal as Pelton ran away with fifth singles with final scores of 6-0, 6-1. Mike Zintel capped off the day for Fisher with a sixth singles win for the sweep with scores of 6-2, 6-2.
Fisher sealed the number three seed in the Empire 8 Conference Championship with the win over Elmira and will play Friday against host Houghton College.
