ALFRED, N.Y. – The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College softball team ran its winning streak to 10 games on Friday as the Cardinals, who are ranked ninth in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll, swept Alfred University to remain unbeaten in Empire 8 play. With the wins, Fisher improved to 25-7 overall and 12-0 in the Empire 8 standings while the Saxons fell to 19-17 and 6-5, respectively.

Senior pitcher
Lindsey Thayer continued to dominant in the circle as the Winthrop native netted her 12th straight win to move to 16-3 on the season. Thayer, who pitched a perfect game in her last outing and has not allowed a run over her last 60.1 innings, went seven and allowed just one hit to go along with 11 strikeouts. The three-time All-American now sits just 37 strikeouts away from tying the all-time Division III record for career Ks.
The Cardinals scored the only run they'd need in the top of the first.
Emily Trotman led off the game and was hit by a pitch before
Katie Mazierski, who became just the fourth player in program history to surpass 200 career hits on Tuesday, dropped a bunt single. Following a walk by
Ashley Prince to load the bases,
Sammie Torlish was credited with an RBI after reaching on an infield error to make it 1-0 in the Cardinals' favor.
Fisher tacked on an insurance run in the top of the sixth as
Emma Savas drove in a run with an RBI-single up the middle to score
Julia Sortisio who had singled to begin the frame.
In the bottom of the seventh, Thayer was poised to net her second straight no-hitter after notching two quick outs, but Alfred was able to come up with a two-out double to left center to break up the bid. Thayer, however, was unfazed and closed out the game with a strikeout.

Bari Mance's team got off to another quick start as the Cardinals plated two runs on two hits in the top of the first. After notching two outs, the Saxons were unable to get off the field as Torlish roped an opposite field single that plated Prince. Fisher added another run when
Sarah Kubik, who had walked earlier in the frame, crossed home plate courtesy of a wild pitch to make it 2-0.
The Cardinals extended their lead to three runs in the next inning as Sortisio blasted a run-scoring double that pushed
Mary Claire Grosvenor home after she had singled to begin the second.
Alfred finally broke through in the bottom of the third with a run, but gave one right back to Fisher in the top of the fourth as Grosvenor drilled a solo home run to center to make it 4-1.
The Saxons again tallied a run in the bottom of the fifth, but once again were unable to chip away as Mazierski kept the lead at three runs with an RBI-single to second that scored
Maddie Klidonas and made it 5-2.
In the top of the seventh, Fisher padded its lead as Torlish belted her second home run of the season to lift Fisher to the 6-2 decision.
Monica Moses (8-2) added a win to her season total after allowing three runs (two earned) over seven innings of work. Moses yielded eight hits on the day and struck out a pair.
In all, Fisher came away with 11 base hits including five that went for extra bases. Grosvenor had a day as the junior went 3-for-3 with a double, a home run, an RBI and two runs scored. Torlish also produced three hits and drove in a pair while Sortisio had two hits in four at-bats.
Fisher will close out its regular season at 1 p.m. on Sunday when it hosts Utica College in an Empire 8 doubleheader at the Softball Complex.
