No. 20 Women's Lacrosse Handles Rochester For Its Ninth Consecutive Victory

Pittsford, N.Y. – The No. 20 St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team earned its ninth consecutive victory on Wednesday night, as it defeated the University of Rochester 12-2 under the lights at Growney Stadium. With the win, the Cardinals improve to 14-2 overall on the year, while the Yellowjackets fall to 5-9 overall in 2018.

The Cardinals took control from the opening whistle, as the team out-shot Rochester 21-6 and were able to cause 22 turnovers.

The Yellowjackets were the first ones on the scoreboard in the first half, tallying the first goal of the game at the 27:37 mark.

The Cardinals were held scoreless through the first 10 minutes of the game, however were able to find the back of the net three times over the next 10 minutes of play. Mallory Eymer got the goal scoring started, as the sophomore scored two in a row, with Kelsie Schindler able to pick up an assist to give Fisher the 2-1 lead. Next was Claire Bollin notching her 28th of the season, pushing the Cardinal lead to three at the 14:49 mark.

The home side tacked on two more goals before the halftime horn sounded, as Schindler and Logan Chase scored their 22nd and 20th goals of the season respectively to give the Cardinals a four goal halftime lead. The Fisher defense held strong, and only allowed two Rochester shots to reach goalkeeper Morgan Hayes in the first 30 minutes.

Fisher's offense picked up right where it left off, as Eymer notched her hat-trick goal less than five minutes into the second half, which was followed by another Schindler tally from Bollin that opened up a five goal Fisher lead.

At the 15:01 mark, Bollin took an Allison Rupp pass and finished off her second of the game on the man-up advantage. Schindler and Bollin again scored back-to-back goals less than two minutes apart, giving Fisher an 11 goal lead with just over 10 minutes remaining in the second half.

Rochester was able to put one past Hayes from the free position at the 9:19 mark, that cut the lead back to 10-2.

Two more Fisher shots found the back of the cage after the three-minute mark, as Eymer and Bollin closed out their four goal nights to help the Cardinals remain perfect at Growney Stadium this season.

Hayes was credited with her ninth victory of the season, after finishing with four saves in the game. Defensively, Fisher was led by Logan Chase who tallied four caused turnovers and three ground balls, while Morgan Young and Molly Tice each added two caused turnovers.

The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday for their final regular season game of the season, when they host Elmira in an Empire 8 Conference matchup as well as Senior Day at 1 p.m.
