PITTSFORD, N.Y. – History was made on Tuesday as Lindsey Thayer threw her second perfect game of the season while fellow senior Katie Mazierski became just the fourth player in program history to notch 200 career hits as the nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College softball team made quick work of The Sage Colleges in an Empire 8 doubleheader at the Softball Complex.  With the wins, Fisher, which is ranked 15th in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll, improved to 23-7 and 10-0 in the Empire 8 while the Gators fell to 8-11 and 2-6, respectively.

FISHER 8, SAGE 0 (FIVE INNINGS)

Thayer, who has now pitched three no-hitters this season and six in the last two years, moved to 15-3 overall after striking out 11 over five innings of work.  The Winthrop native has been untouchable over her last eight starts and has not allowed a run to cross home plate in her last 53.1 innings.

After a scoreless first inning of play, Fisher got on the board with two runs on three hits including RBI pokes from Mary Claire Grosvenor and Emily Trotman. 

Following a 1-2-3 top of the third, Fisher blew the game wide open in the home half of the frame after producing five runs on six hits.  Ashley Prince led off the inning with a single up the middle and moved to second when Sarah Kubik singled through the left side of the infield.  With two on and no outs, Sammie Torlish brought both runs in with a double down the left field line and eventually came around to score when Julia Sortisio singled to center.  With three runs already on the board, Grosvenor lined a single to right-center to plate Sortisio and would later score the Cardinals' seventh run after a Sage pitch scooted to the backstop. 

In the top of the fifth, Fisher was set up after Megan Kreger led off with a triple to the opposite field before Marissa Kirker blooped a walk-off single over third base to give Fisher the 8-0 win.

In all, Fisher totaled 11 hits led by Torlish and Grosvenor who had two apiece.  Mazierski was 1-for-3 and picked up her 200th career hit in signature fashion with a bunt single to third.

FISHER 1, SAGE 0

The second game was a bit tighter as the Cardinals stranded 11 runners in all.  Fisher's lone run of the contest came in the bottom of the fourth inning on the strength of a pair of base hits.  Kreger got the ball rolling with a single to left before being lifted in favor of Maddie Klidonas at first.  After a sacrifice bunt from Emma Savas moved the runner over, Mazierski beat out an infield single to give the home team a one-run edge.

In the top of the sixth inning, Sage led off with a single and worked its way around the bases courtesy of a wild pitch and a groundout to put the tying run at third with one out.  The Gators tried to squeeze the run in, but Kirker made two strong throws to first to end the threat and preserve the lead.

Monica Moses was credited with the win as the Olean native improved her season mark to 7-2 on the year. Moses allowed just three hits on the day and had 10 strikeouts overall.

At the plate, Mazierski had two more hits to give her 202 career knocks.  To date, Mazierski needs just 22 hits to break the all-time record held by Jen Wilder.

Fisher will look to extend its current eight-game winning streak at 3 p.m. on Friday when it travels to Alfred for a pivotal Empire 8 doubleheader against the host Saxons.
