PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's tennis team took to the court for Senior Day and brought out the brooms for the clean sweep of Alfred University with a final score of 9-0. With the big win, the Cardinals jumped to 6-9 overall and advanced to 5-2 in the Empire 8 standings. The Saxons dropped to 2-9 on the year and fell to 2-4 in the conference.
The contest started out with a nail-biter with lone senior Kevin Kulawiec and Dustin McCullough coming away with a win in first doubles with a final score of 8-7 over their Saxon opponents.
Jonathan Harper and Jordan O'Connell followed suit with a win in second doubles with a final score of 8-3, before John Miller and Jarrett Pelton wrapped up the doubles matches with a convincing 8-1 win over their Alfred contenders.
Singles matches would come next for the Cardinals with Kulawiec taking first singles in straight sets with scores of 6-2, 6-0. Miller would follow his teammate in second singles with scores of 6-4, 6-4.
Third and fourth singles would look very much the same for Fisher with McCullough and Harper taking straight set wins with scores of 6-1, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-0.
Fifth singles would feature Pelton only dropping a single set with final scores of 6-0, 6-1.
Mike Zintel would wrap up the day for the Cardinals with a bang, not dropping a single set to his opponent and sealing the clean sweep for Fisher on Senior Day.
The Cardinals finish out their regular season schedule at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday against Empire 8 opponent Elmira College.
