PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's tennis team got back on track this afternoon with a big Empire 8 Conference victory over its East Avenue rival, Nazareth College with a final score of 9-0. With the win, Fisher jumped to 5-9 overall, and moved to 4-2 in the conference standings. Nazareth fell to 3-12 on the year, and dropped to 3-3 in the Empire 8.
Kevin Kulawiec and Dustin McCullough did their thing and took over first doubles with an 8-5 victory. Jordan O'Connell and Jonathan Harper won second doubles with an identical score, before John Miller and Jarrett Pelton finished out the doubles matches with a convincing 8-2 victory over their Golden Flyer opponents.
Kulawiec would come right back in first singles, setting the tone for the Cardinals with a sweep of his opponent. Miller would follow that up with a second singles victory with scores of 6-1, 6-0, before McCullough would lock up third singles, finishing with scores of 6-1, 6-0.
Harper and Pelton took care of business in fourth and fifth singles with finals marks of 6-1, 6-1 and 6-3, 6-0.
Mike Zintel wrapped up the big day for the Cardinals with a thrilling, three-set sixth singles win over his Nazareth opponent, with finals scores of 7-6, 2-7, 6-0.
Fisher returns to the court at 4 p.m. on Tuesday as the Cardinals celebrate Senior Day against Empire 8 opponent, Alfred University.
