Fredonia, N.Y. – The No. 24 St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team defeated SUNY Fredonia on the road Wednesday evening in non-conference action by a score of 18-3. With the win, the Cardinals improve to 10-2 overall on the season, while the Blue Devils fall to 0-12 in 2018.
Fisher surpassed the 15 goal mark for the seventh time this season, after scoring 22 goals versus Sage last time out, which was the most since the 2011 season.
The Cardinals got the goal scoring started early in the first half, as
Mackenzie LeVan scored her 17
th of the season from
Kelsie Schindler just 80 seconds after the opening whistle. Fisher would then start a 10-goal run, which included four more goals within the first 10 minutes of the half.
Mallory Eymer was the next Cardinal on the scoresheet at the 26:01 mark for her 21
st of the season.
Claire Bollin and Schidnler pushed the lead to four goals as the seniors scored just 35 seconds apart, followed by an
Allison Rupp tally giving the visitors an early 5-0 lead.
After five minutes of scoreless action, Bollin notched her second of the game off of a
Morgan Young assist, which was again was followed by Eymer's second just 44 seconds later.
While on the man-down, Rupp was able to score her second of the evening with the help of a
Mary Grace Doyle assist. Fisher increased its lead to 11-0 before the halftime break as Doyle,
Molly Rourke, and
Alyssa Sabotka all were able to find the back of the net.
Fredonia scored their first goal of the game at the 4:43 mark of the first 30 minutes, as Fisher carried a 10 goal advantage as the halftime horn sounded.
Logan Chase scored her 14
th of the season to get Fisher on the scoreboard first in the second half, while Doyle picked up her second assist. Bollin completed her hat-trick, again off of a pass from Schindler at the 25:38 mark.
Young was able to add to her already one assist with a goal of her own with exactly 17 minutes remaining in the game. Both sides traded goals back and forth over the next eight minutes, as Doyle scored her second of the game in between two Blue Devil goals.
Marziale, Sabotka, and Young each scored their second goals of the game in the final six minutes of game time, with
Emily Smith picked up an assist to give Fisher its fifth consecutive victory dating back to March 31st.
Goalkeeper
Morgan Hayes earned her fifth win of the season after seeing the first 30 minutes of action and finishing with two saves.
Claudia Mocciaro was between the pipes in the second half finishing with one save for Fisher.
The Cardinals are back in action on Friday, when they travel to SUNY Geneseo for another non-conference matchup at 5:30 p.m.
