PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's tennis team cruised to its fourth straight victory with the 9-0 sweep of The Sage Colleges Gators. With the win the Cardinals jumped to 4-8 overall, and moved to a solid 3-1 conference record. The Gators dropped to 0-5 on the year, and fell to 0-4 in the Empire 8.
The Cardinals cleaned house in the doubles portion of competition, only letting up two sets in three matches.
Kevin Kulawiec and Dustin McCullough started things off with an 8-1 win in first doubles. Jonathan Harper and Jordan O'Connell followed suit with an 8-0 sweep in second doubles, before John Miller and Jarrett Pelton took down their Gator opponents with an 8-1 victory.
Kulawiec would kick things off with a straight set sweep in first singles, followed up by a second singles win by John Miller with scores of 6-2, 6-1.
McCullough and Harper would only let up a single set in third and fourth singles with scores of 6-0, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-1.
Pelton would follow the leader and take the fifth singles sweep, before Mike Zintel would finish up the day with a sixth singles victory with final scores of 6-2, 6-1.
The Cardinals step back out onto the court at 4 p.m. on Wednesday as the team hits the road and heads to Houghton College to face the Highlanders in Empire 8 action.
