PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College softball team brought the brooms out against Nazareth College and accumulated two Empire 8 conference wins with final scores of, 9-0 and 6-1. With the wins the Cardinals move to 17-7 overall, and keep their conference record unblemished with a 4-0 record. The Golden Flyers dropped to 6-10 overall, and moved to 0-4 in conference play.
Fisher 9, Nazareth 0
Lindsey Thayer would take the mound for the Cardinals in the first game of the day and strike out the first six batters of the contest before her teammates would step up to the dish in the bottom of the second frame.
Sammie Torlish started off the hitting with a single up the middle. Emma Savas reached on an error, before Megan Kreger and Mary Claire Grosvenor each tallied an RBI single to put the Cardinals up, 3-0.
Fisher would tack two more runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth inning with a little help from Kreger and Grosvenor doubles.
Thayer would retire the side in the top half of the fifth inning, sending the Cardinals back to plate in the bottom of the stanza.
Marissa Kirker led off with a single to left field. Ashley Prince would force Nazareth to make an error, before Sarah Kubik would add a single to load the bases. Then Torlish would step up to the plate and send a monster three-run homerun over the left center field fence, and end the game early.
Torlish finished 3-3 on the day to go with three RBI. Kreger and Grosvenor added two hits in the contest, while Kirker, Kubik and Maddie Klidonas each pitched in with a hit.
Thayer picked up her 11th win of the season in the circle and finished with 12 strikeouts.
Fisher 6, Nazareth 1
The Cardinals got on the board right off the bat in the bottom of the second inning, scoring three runs on four hits. Torlish and Sam Schermerhorn would start it off with two singles to left field to set up Grosvenor for the huge three-run shot and her first homerun of the 2018 campaign.
After turning the double play in the top of third inning, Fisher would tack on another run on three hits in the bottom of the third. Prince would send a laser of a triple off the right center field fence, before Jill Murray grounded into the fielder's choice to bring Prince home.
Fisher's final two runs would come in the bottom of the fourth inning. Emily Trotman started off the inning with a solo shot, which marked the first homerun of her collegiate career. Klidonas then sent a double deep to center and Prince would drive her in with the RBI single to left field.
Monica Moses picked up her sixth win of the year, while striking out seven Golden Flyers in the affair.
The Cardinals jump back into Empire 8 play at 3 and 5 p.m. on Tuesday as Fisher heads to Alfred University to face the Saxons.
