TUCSON, ARIZONA – The St. John Fisher College softball team made the clean sweep on its second day at the Tucson Invitational. The Cardinals would topple Husson University 7-0, before dominating the College of Staten Island with a final score of 7-0. Fisher climbed its way back to 500, getting themselves back to 5-5 on the season.
Fisher 7, Husson 0
Monica Moses would get the nod on the hill for the Cardinals and come in to strike out two in the top of the first inning.
Fisher would chip away for two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Julia Sortisio started it off with a triple down the right field line, before Sammie Torlish would leg out the RBI double to center. The Cardinals would score another run to close out the inning with a little help from a Husson error and wild pitch.
The Cardinals would get to the bats again in the bottom of second to plate another two runs on two hits. Jessica Sardina would find her way on with a single and Emma Savas would move her over with a sacrifice bunt. Katie Mazierski would poke the single through, eventually scoring Sardina.
Moses would power through the next inning with a single strikeout, and Fisher would tack a fifth run on in the bottom of the third. Megan Kreger would send a shot up the middle, eventually setting Sardina up for the sacrifice fly RBI.
After scoreless fourth and fifth innings, Fisher would score two more runs to close out the contest. Marissa Kirker would start off the bottom of the sixth with a single up the middle, followed by Mazierski bunt single. Torlish would rocket a single left field, plating Kirker before Kubik would step to the plate and sail a sacrifice fly to center field for the final run of the game.
Moses would earn the victory in the circle, totaling five strikeouts in the game.
Mazierski, Sortisio and Torlish would all finish with multi-hit games.
Fisher 7, Staten Island 0
Lindsey Thayer would power through the Staten Island lineup in the first two innings of play to set up the Fisher bats to strike first.
The Cardinals would plate three runs on four hits in the bottom of the second. After a Kubik double as well as an Emily Trotman walk, Sardina would step up and send a two RBI single up the middle. Fisher would score one more run behind a Kirker single.
The Cardinals would tack another run on in the third on one Kirker run.
After a scoreless fourth, Fisher would break it open scoring two runs on three hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. Sardina would lace a single to center field and advance to second on a wild pitch, before Ashley Prince would step up to the plate and launch a double to right center. Fisher would plate another run in the inning after a Sam Schermerhorn single and a Staten Island error.
The Cardinal would force another run across the plate to wrap up the sweep.
Thayer would take the win in the circle, striking out 12 in the affair.
Kubik and Sardina would pace the offense with three hits apiece, while Prince finished with two.
The Cardinals wrap up their spring trip to Tucson at 1:30 p.m. MST (3:30 EST) on Thursday against the College of Saint Benedict before dueling with Bethany Lutheran College at 6:00 MST p.m. (8:00 EST).
