PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse team fell to No. 13 Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon in an Empire 8 Conference matchup by a score of 17-10. With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 6-4 overall and 0-2 in the conference, while the Ducks improve to 9-1 overall and 2-0 in the Empire 8.

Both teams were able to get on the scoreboard early in the first half, with the first two goals of the game coming before the 12-minute mark. Stevens was the first to score at the 14:14 mark, followed by Nicholas Miller at the 12:23 mark to tie the game back up at one apiece.

The Ducks were able to rally and put three more goals of their own on the scoreboard to give them a 4-1 advantage heading into the second 15-minute quarter.

This time it was Fisher to score the first goal of the quarter, as Mitch Rein took the ground ball all the way from mid-field to the top of the Steven's goal crease and was able to beat the goalkeeper for his third goal of the season.

Stevens was able to put together another scoring run, scoring four goals to finish out the second quarter, bringing an 8-2 lead into the halftime break.

The third quarter started off with a Duck goal only 41 seconds after the faceoff, until Roger Panara scored his first career goal off of an assist from Andrew Rosso at the 13:56 mark to cut the lead to six. The No. 13 ranked team in the country was able to net two more goals pushing their lead back to eight.

Fisher however did not lay low, as the home team was able to spark some momentum though the middle of the third quarter. The Cardinals rattled off four straight goals, starting with Miller's second of the game and 17th of the season. Rosso claimed his first of the game at the 4:48 mark, while Miller tallied his hat-trick goal off of a feed from Zach Wagner just 47 seconds later. Jack Mulvihill scored his first career goal at the 3:12 mark off of a beautiful feed from Miller in front of the Stevens cage, cutting the Ducks lead to 11-7.

Stevens once again closed out the quarter strong offensively, able to increase their lead back to six heading into the final quarter.

Chance Gates notched his 15th of the season to start off the final 15 minutes as he took a Mulvihill pass and slid it past the Ducks goalkeeper. Both sides traded goals back and forth for the remainder of the game. As Austin Jobson was the third Cardinal to score his first career goal in the game at the 11:51 mark.

Three more Stevens goals, followed by another Rosso tally finished up the second Empire 8 Conference game for both teams.

Justin Townsend played all 60 minutes between the pipes for the Cardinals, making a season-high 13 saves on the day and senior now carries a 6-4 overall record in 2018.
