PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The No. 23 ranked St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team won its third consecutive game defeating Hartwick College in an Empire 8 Conference matchup at Growney Stadium by a score of 16-5. With the win the Cardinals improve to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the conference, while the Hawks fall to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the Empire 8.
Fisher was dominant from the opening whistle, outshooting Hartwick 23-9 in the game, while also maintaining the advantage in the draw control department with an 18-5 edge.
Logan Chase got the Cardinals on the board first and early in the first half, notching her first of four goals on the afternoon just under three minutes into the matchup. The Cardinals rattled off a season-high 13 goals in the first half. Fisher scored four more times within the first 10 minutes of the opening whistle.
Mackenzie LeVan notched her seventh of the season, followed by goals from
Claire Bollin,
Morgan Young, and
Allison Rupp to give Cardinals a 5-0 advantage.
The Cardinal goal scoring continued with three goals within three minutes of each other midway through the first 30 minutes. Rupp tallied her second of the game at the 18:00 minute mark, with LeVan and Chase each finishing off their second goals. Hartwick notched their first goal of the game at the 14:54 mark off of a two on one break.
Chase continued her scoring and finished off her first-half hat-trick, while
Kelsie Schindler scored her first of the game to give Fisher a 10-1 lead with 12 minutes remaining in the first half. The Hawks tallied their second goal to cut the lead to eight. However
Hayley Maguire score her first goal of the season on the man-up advantage. Also scoring their first goals of the season were
Emily Smith and
Molly Rourke as the Cardinals carried a 13-2 lead in the halftime break.
Hartwick was the first to add to the scoreboard in the second half just 26 seconds into it. The Cardinals rallied to score twice more before the 24 minute mark hit. Goal scorers' included
Sara Roman with her first of the season off of a beautiful pass from
Maria Hristodoulou inside the box and Chase adding her fourth goal of the afternoon.
Hartwick added two goals at the 14:35 and 6:23 marks, while
Olivia Marziale scored her fourth of the season in between to finish of the game in which every player on each side played in the action. Goalkeeper
Molly Maguire was credited with the victory and improved her record to 4-1 after making three saves in 30 minutes of game time.
The Cardinals are back in action on Wednesday when the team hosts SUNY Brockport for a non-conference matchup at Growney Stadium scheduled to start at 4:30 o.m.
