Men's Basketball Closes Out 2017-18 Season With a Win at Sage; Henderson Scores Game-High 20 Points

TROY, N.Y. – Junior Ryan Henderson scored a team-high 20 points on Saturday and notched what turned out to be the difference maker as the St. John Fisher College men's basketball team held on to down The Sage Colleges, 79-76.  The win moved Fisher to 15-10 overall and 10-6 in the conference standings to close out the 2017-18 campaign while the Gators concluded their season at 11-14 and 6-10.

Henderson was 9-for-12 from the floor on the day and hauled in three rebounds overall.  The Cazenovia native played 20 minutes in total and had one steal on the defensive end of the court.  Sammy Robinson finished with 18 points on 8-of-13 shooting and nabbed his fourth double-double of the year with 10 rebounds.  Dennis Hare had 11 points, five rebounds and two assists.  Michael D'Amico added 10 points a three dimes.  Senior Tyler English closed out his four-year career with 1,094 career points, which ranks 14th all-time in program history.  Fellow seniors D'Amico, Tyler Farrell, Alex Sausville and Jake Haight also completed their careers as the quartet combined to produce 1,660 points over the last four seasons.

Still tied after 20 minutes of play, the two teams continued to trade baskets over the first two minutes of the second half before the Gators reeled off a 9-2 run on the strength of three 3-pointers to hold a seven-point edge, 52-45.

The lead would grow to 10 points with 15:50 remaining in the game before the Cardinals used a 12-2 run including a coast-to-coast dunk from Henderson to knot the game at 59 points apiece.

Sage would weather the Cardinals' momentum, however, and eventually regained control and built an eight-point lead, 76-68, with just over three minutes left to play in the contest.  From there, the Gators seemed to run of steam as Robinson buried a 3-pointer to spark a 13-0 Fisher run that included six points from the free throw line as the Cardinals earned their 10th win in conference play.

As a team, Fisher was 30-for-61 (.492) from the floor and shot 15-of-25 (.600) from the charity stripe.  The Cardinals took care of the ball with just 10 turnovers while on the defensive end, the team nabbed five steals.
