WASHINGTON, Pa. - The St. John Fisher College field hockey team bowed out in the final round of the Empire 8 Field Hockey Championship to the nationally ranked Presidents of Washington and Jefferson, 1-0. The Cardinals wrap up their 2018 campaign at 15-5 overall.
The two teams traded shots back and forth for the better part of the first half of play. However, the Presidents got on the board in the 21st minute of play after a shot was rebounded in the middle of the circle and put just past Ashley Maynard.
Bre Socker and Reghan Amoroso registered Fisher's two shots in the first 35 minutes, while the team recorded three corner attempts.
Maynard kept the Cardinals only trailing by one after the half as the senior picked up five saves in the first half.
Fisher came out aggressive in the second as the team ripped three shots and limited Washington and Jefferson to a single shot attempt, but eventually would run out of time.
The Cardinals finished with five shots on the day. Socker and Lauren Fazio led the team with two apiece.
Senior goalkeeper Maynard stopped six President shot attempts but suffered the loss in net.
Fisher puts its fate into the hands of the NCAA as the team hopes to pick up an at-large bid into the 2018 Field Hockey National Championship. The selection show is slated for Sunday, November 4th at midnight.
