PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's soccer team wrapped up it 2018 season with a season-high seven goal win against Elmira College. With its final win of the season the team finished with a 7-6-3 overall record and a 3-3-2 Empire 8 standing. The Soaring Eagles rounded out their season at 3-12-0 and 0-7-1 in the conference.
The Cardinals hopped on the board to score their first goal in the 14th minute of play as Makenzie Winslow netted her first goal of the season.
Just five minutes later Tara Marcello sent a through ball past two Elmira defenders and found the feet of freshman Carli Kovarik to score the second goal of the match.
Then, three minutes later, Winslow struck again as the sophomore ripped a shot from 25 yards out to find the top right shelf of the goal.
Fisher rounded out the first half scoring with just 25 seconds to go as Abigail Dwyer sent a pass through the box for Gabriella Borrelli to put the Cardinals up four goals headed into the second half.
Dwyer would get the credit for the fifth goal with Kovarik picking up the assist on the play before Kovarik beat the Soaring Eagle defense to bury her second goal of the game.
Winslow finished up the Cardinal scoring with a goal in the last five minutes of the game to secure the hat trick on the day.
Fisher rocketed a season-high 24 shots in its final tilt of the year with 15 of those being on net. Kovarik led the squad with seven total shots while Dwyer added four and Winslow finished with three.
McGowan picked up her final win in net as the senior registered 36 minutes of play. Kayla Shutts would come in to relieve her for 37 minutes and picked up one save, before Lila Platt came in to finish out the final 16 and half minutes of play.
