HOBOKEN, N.J – The St. John Fisher College women's basketball team cruised past Stevens Institute of Technology, 63-50, for its fourth straight win and eighth in its last nine contest. With the win Fisher moves to 11-5 overall thus far, while improving to 6-1 in the Empire 8 Conference. Stevens drops to 8-9 overall, while moving to 5-3 in the conference.
The first quarter of the contest was marked by back and forth buckets, with Sydney Masna finding the open layup with just four seconds remaining to tie the game at 11 apiece. Olivia Baumann and Caroline Robertson would open up the second quarter with a bucket apiece, putting Fisher up four. Stevens would get two back, however Baumann would hit a quick three-pointer alongside another layup to put the Cardinals up seven with 7:05 remaining in the half.
The Ducks would chip away at the Cardinal lead, but with help from jumpers from Erin Hulbert and Gillian Flint, as well as two Nicole Robinson fast breaks, the Cardinals would find themselves on an 8-0 run down the second quarter stretch. With two seconds to go, Baumann would find herself alone in the paint and finding the basket for the layup, putting the Cardinals up 30-19 at the intermission.
Hulbert would start the third quarter out with a three pointer to go along with a Flint layup from the paint to put the Cardinals up by as many as 15 points. Stevens would cut the lead down to 11, but back to back Hulbert threes inside three minutes would help put the Cardinals back on top by 12 heading into the final stanza.
A big three pointer and crucial free throws put the Ducks within four points with 6:47 remaining in regulation. However, Hulbert would go off hitting 9-10 from the free throw line and knocking down 14 points in the fourth quarter would help push the Cardinals to a 63-50 finish.
Hulbert would finish the contest shooting 7-11 from the floor and 5-7 from the three point line for a career-high 28 points in the win. The Ballston Lake native would also add ten rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Robertson would add seven points and four boards, while Masna poured in six points to go with four assists. Nicole Robinson and Liga Kalnina combined for an impressive 21 rebounds in the contest. Flint added seven points and eight rebounds, while Baumann added nine points off the bench.
The Cardinals return to action at 8 p.m. on Tuesday as the team travels to Houghton College in another conference duel with the Highlanders.
