Field Hockey Secures Seventh Straight Win Over St. Lawrence

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College Field Hockey team won its seventh consecutive game on Sunday as it defeated St. Lawrence University 2-1 in a non-conference matchup at Growney Stadium. With the win the Cardinals improve to 7-1 on the year, while the Saints fall to 3-5.

Goalkeeper Ashley Maynard made seven saves in the game and was credited with her seventh victory of the season.

St. Lawrence started off the scoring quickly as the Saints tallied just over eight minutes into the first period capitalizing off of a rebound in front of the net.

The Cardinals tied it up at the 29:33 mark of the first period as Danila Casseri scored her first goal of the season, unassisted with a shot from the front of the net.

Freshman Jess Snyder then put Fisher ahead with just 10 seconds remaining before halftime as she redirected a shot from fellow freshman Bre Socker off of a corner for her second goal of the season.

Fisher controlled the game offensively for the majority of the game finishing with 13 shots on goal with nine of them coming in the first half. Maynard stood tall and the defense stood tall and held off a number of late St. Lawrnece scoring chances.

Fisher will return to action at 11 a.m. on Saturday as it hosts Nazareth College for an Empire 8 Conference matchup at Growney Stadium.
