CANTON, N.Y. – Fresh off a pair of straight-set wins on Friday, the St. John Fisher College women's volleyball team split on Saturday as the Cardinals defeated Cazenovia, 3-0, before falling to host St. Lawrence to wrap up play at the North Country Invitational. With the split, Fisher moved to 3-1 on the year.
In the first match of the afternoon, the Cardinals came out strong and put on a dominating performance against Cazenovia College winning in straight sets 25-10, 25-16, 25-16. With the loss, the Wildcats fell to 0-4 on the young season.
Fisher's well-balanced attack led by Senior
Katie Mazierski's nine kills and four aces turned out to be the difference throughout the match. Junior
Erica Pawlewicz added five kills and
Amanda Miller put away four of her own.

Tori Laratonda led the way defensively with a career-high 12 digs.
Rebecca Hay notched 14 assists to help power Fisher offensively.
The second match of the afternoon came against the host's from St Lawrence University. The Cardinals fell in hard-fought three set match 21-25, 21-25, 23-25 as the Saints remained unbeaten in the early goings at 4-0.Â
All three sets were very close, not only on the scoreboard but in kills as well. Fisher notched a season-high 14 kills in the third set, ending with 40 for the match overall. Senior
Anna Marcy, who was named to the All-Tournament Team, followed up a strong showing on Friday with 11 kills. Mazierski chipped in with nine kills and
Madison Karwas clubbed eight in the loss.
Fisher saw strong play all afternoon from both of its setters as
Phoebe Kane and Hay each posted double digit assists with 13 and 11, respectively.
The Cardinals will be back in action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday for their first home match of the 2017 season, as they host D'Youville College inside Manning & Napier Varsity Gymnasium.
