Baseball Runs Winning Streak to Seven; Sweeps St. Lawrence

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Jim Dawson and Dominick Pisciotto each picked up a win as the St. John Fisher College baseball team completed the weekend sweep of the St. Lawrence Saints on Sunday at Dugan Yard and extended.  Fisher, which has now won its last seven games, moved to 15-6 with the sweep while the Saints fell to 4-10 overall.

FISHER 7, ST. LAWRENCE 4

Fisher got off to a slow start as the Saints were able to plate four runs through the first four innings before the Cardinals got on the board.  Trailing 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth. Fisher scored its first run of the game as Ryan Prevost lifted a double to left field to drive in Allen Murphy who had singled earlier in the frame.

The Cardinals turned a three-run deficit into a one-run lead in the home half of the fifth inning after coming away with four runs on four hits.  Thomas Pasquale led off with a single to right and came around to score after Justin Graham smacked an RBI-double to center to pull Fisher to within two runs, 4-2.  After Ryan Fahy drew a walk, the next hitter, Scott Eisenmenger, lifted a pop to center that fell in to load the bases with just one away.  Murphy continued to see the ball well as he blasted a two-run single through the right side to tie the game at 4-4.  As the inning continued, Prevost drew a walk before Nate Roethel hit a sacrifice fly to left to score the go-ahead run as Fisher took a 5-4 lead.

Jason Wasilnak pitched a scoreless top of the sixth before the Cardinals scored two more runs to pad their lead, 7-4, with Fahy picking up two more RBI with a double to left center.

Up by three runs and needing just three outs to clinch the win, Fisher called on Kyle Chambers to close it out.  Chambers did just that with three strikeouts to earn his first career save.

Dawson started on the hill for Fisher and moved to 3-0 with the win.  He went five innings and allowed four runs (two earned) on eight hits.  The sophomore right hander walked a pair and tallied two strikeouts.

FISHER 11, ST. LAWRENCE 3

Pisciotto moved to 3-0 with the win after going six innings.  He gave up two runs in all (one earned) on seven hits with five strikeouts.  DJ Mendenhall threw the seventh inning and surrendered one run on one hit while Dillan Wilkinson threw two hitless innings with three strikeouts to close out the game.

After a scoreless top half of the first, Fisher put up four runs on three hits and a pair of Saints' errors in the bottom of the inning.  Evan Ryan reached on an infield error to lead it off before moving to third when Fahy singled to center.  Ryan would score the game's first run on a failed pickoff attempt before Eisenmenger drove in Fahy with a single up the middle to make it 2-0 in Fisher's favor.  After Murphy reached out a fielder's choice, Prevost doubled the Cardinals' advantage courtesy of a two-run homer to make it 4-0.

The Cardinals followed up their first inning performance with five more runs in the second on four hits and three more St. Lawrence misplays.  Fahy and Jack Trotman each came up with two-run singles in the frame.

St. Lawrence scored one run in the third, fourth and seventh innings, respectively, to make it 9-3, but Fisher countered with runs in the fifth and seventh innings including an RBI poke from Thomas Pasquale to come away with the eight-run win, 11-3.

Fisher will look to make it eight wins in a row at 4 p.m. on Wednesday when it hosts The College at Brockport at Dugan Yard.
