The St. John Fisher College men's tennis team swept Utica College in both singles and doubles play on Friday in an Empire 8 matchup at the Mendon Racquet Club. With the 9-0 win, Fisher picked up its conference win of the season, and pushes its overall record to 2-7.
Jacob Zarzycki and
Adam Moran teamed up at first doubles, defeating their opponent by a close score of 8-6. In the second flight was
Jonathan Harper and partner
Dustin McCullough who won in straight sets, 8-0. Also winning in straight sets was third doubles partners
Stephan McCann and
Jarrett Pelton, who won 8-0.
In singles play,
John Miller faced the Pioneers top opponent, winning 6-0, 6-1. Zarzycki played in the second flight, winning a tiebreaker match, 6-1, 1-6, 10-7. McCullough won at third singles 6-0, 6-2, while in the fourth spot was Moran, who beat his opponent 6-0, 6-3.
Vichaka Khoy and
Vincent Grasso each picked up wins as well, Khoy winning 6-1, 6-1 and Grasso winning 6-0, 6-0.
The Cardinals will return to action at 4 p.m. on Friday when they travel to take on the Bombers of Ithaca College for an Empire 8 matchup.
