A Trio of Hat Tricks Helps Women's Lax Defeat Buff State

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team defeated Buffalo State 13-7 Thursday afternoon in the rain. With the win, Fisher is now 5-3 on the year while Buffalo State moves to 4-5.

Fisher got off to a hot start, cashing in the contest's first four goals in just under eight minutes. Jamie Wallace, Mackenzie LeVan and Jordan Johnson each nabbed an even strength score, while Morgan Young netted one on the man up.

The Bengals called a timeout to gather themselves and it seemed to work as they cut the deficit to 4-2 in the next two minutes. Fisher had the answer though, tallying three to build a lead back to a five-goal game. The Cardinals would pile in two more before the half and be on top comfortably, 9-3, at the halftime whistle.

In the second, the teams split a pair of goals each in the first 6:43. As time drew to a close, the two sides would exchange a pair of three-goal runs as well, leaving Fisher in the lead as time expired.

A trio of players nabbed hat tricks on the evening, including Maria Hristodoulou, Johnson and LeVan. Morgan Young and Olivia Marziale helped out as well, scoring two and one, respectively.

Defensively, Cori Holbrook put on a show as she caused three turnovers and scooped up five groundballs. Abbie Reed wasn't too far away with her performance as she recorded three turnovers as well.

Hayley Peets registered a solid day between the pipes for Fisher, turning aside eight Bengal shots.

Women's lacrosse will be back in action at 11 a.m. on Saturday with a conference match up with Houghton College. The team will also recognize its five upperclassman for Senior Day.
