PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College baseball team combined to score 30 runs including a season-high 19 in a sweep of SUNY Canton on Sunday in an Empire 8 Conference doubleheader at Dugan yard. With the wins, Fisher, which is ranked 24th in the latest D3baseball.com national poll, improved to 11-6 overall and 4-0 in the Empire 8 while the Roos slipped to 2-13 and 0-3 against conference opponents.
FISHER 19, CANTON 7 (7 Innings)
Fisher jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first inning after
Ryan Prevost picked up an RBI-single before
Ryan Fahy smacked a bases-clearing double to right to score three.
The Cardinals continued to hit the ball in the second inning, which led to three more runs and a 7-0 advantage.
Thomas Pasquale led off with a walk and moved into scoring position after stealing second base.
Justin Graham followed with a walk of his own before
Jack Trotman drove in a run with a base knock. The Cardinals would score another run on a wild pitch while
Allen Murphy collected an RBI after driving in Trotman with a single through the right side of the infield.
Fahy staked Fisher to an 8-0 lead in the bottom of the third on a solo home run before the Cardinals erupted for five runs in the fifth frame with
Scott Eisenmenger blasting a grand slam to push the advantage to 13-0 heading into the sixth.
Canton cut the deficit to 10 runs in the top of the sixth with three runs on four hits and a Fisher error, but the Cardinals responded with six runs on five hits in the home half of the inning.
Ryan Simmons drove in a pair while
Jack Vivinetto,
Stephen Edgett and Murphy were each credited with an RBI in the inning.
In the top of the seventh, Canton continued to battle. The Roos scored four runs on four hits before the Cardinals notched the final out in a 12-run win.
Jim Dawson, who threw just three pitches in the top of the first, moved to 2-0 on the season after yielding five runs on eight hits over 6.0 innings. Dawson struck out three in the win and did not issue a walk.
Ethan Hite tossed the seventh inning and gave up a pair of runs on two hits while striking out one.
FISHER 11, CANTON 3
Dominick Pisciotto, who struck out seven batters on the day, picked up his second win of the season with 6.0 strong innings as the senior scattered seven hits and allowed three runs (one earned) overall.
Dillan Wilkinson pitched the final 3.0 innings and gave up just one hit.
Murphy got things going for Fisher in the bottom of the first with an RBI-single into right to give Fisher a 1-0 lead while
Antony Mantova collected an RBI in the second inning after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to give the Cardinals a 2-0 edge.
Fisher doubled its lead in the third inning after being aided by a Canton error to open up a 4-0 lead.
Victor Konstantinovsky was credited with an RBI in the frame.
In the fourth inning, Franke Carnevale led off with a triple over the leftfielder's head and crossed home plate when Mantova ripped a single into right to make it 5-0 in Fisher's favor.
Canton got on the board in the fifth inning with three runs on four hits and a pair of Fisher misplays, but the Cardinals tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth with
Evan Ryan and Matova each picking up an RBI.
Leading 7-3 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Fisher put the game out of reach with four runs on five hits with the four different players driving in a run.
Fisher will look to keep its momentum going on Wednesday when it travels to Rochester Institute of Technology for a non-conference game. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
