PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse team put up a season-high 25 goals as the team downed Elmira College, 25-4, Tuesday evening at Growney Stadium. With the win, Fisher improves to 8-6 on the season and moves to .500 (3-3) in the Empire 8.
Fisher dominated right from the get-go, scoring the game's first three goals. Elmira would cut it to a two-goal lead at the 10:02 mark but that would be the conclusion of the Soaring Eagles offense for the half. Fisher, on the other hand, dished in another 11 goals, allowing it to carry a 14-1 lead into the intermission. The second half was a similar story with the Cardinals netting 11, to earn the 25-4 victory. The 25 goals was the most goals that Fisher has recorded since a game against the Milwaukee School of Engineering all the way back in 2010.
On the day, 12 different Cardinals scored, led by
Nick Papayanakos' four.
Andrew Rosso,
TJ VanDeusen and
Zach Wagner had monster days as well as they each turned in a hat trick. Also registering multiple goals were
Alex Hunt (2),
Glenn Roschetzky (2), and
Riley O'Brien (2).
To complete the scoresheet,
Drew Brown,
Quinn Mulherin,
Brandon Kohutanich,
Dante Giordano,
Benjamin Bedosky and
Benjamin Eggers all nabbed one.
Papayanakos and Roschetzky both did a solid job distributing as well as they recorded three and two assists, respectively.
At the faceoff 'X', Fisher had a clear advantage as the team came out victorious in 26 of the 31 attempts. Mulherin used his long pole abilities to win a team-high nine, while
Devin Trifeletti went a perfect 8-for-8.
Daniel Harris and
Daniel Page both had solid outings at the faceoff 'X' as well, combining for eight wins.
When going for 50-50 balls, Fisher again held a distinct edge, collecting 53 compared to its opponent's 25.
In goal,
Tanner Swan played the first 25:09, picking up four saves in the process. He was relieved after that for
Justin Townsend, who turned aside another four Soaring Eagle shots.
Kyle Halladay finished out the final 13:01 of the game, collecting one save.
Men's lacrosse returns to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday as the team heads to Utica College to take on the Pioneers.
