Women's Lacrosse Drops Close OT Contest to Naz

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team was edged, 11-10, in overtime by conference-rival Nazareth College Wednesday evening. With the loss, Fisher goes to 6-4 on the year and 1-3 in Empire 8 play. Nazareth improves to 6-5 overall (2-1 E8).

Fisher opened up hot out of the gates, notching the contest's first three goals. Olivia Marziale, Cori Holbrook and Claire Bollin each netted one before the 24:48 mark in the opening half. The Cardinals would then split a pair of goals over the next five minutes.

Then it was Nazareth's turn to go on a scoring run as it notched three in a one minute span. Down a goal, Fisher's Jordan Johnson recorded her first of the day to tie it up 1:36 before intermission.

Tied 6-6 going into the second stanza, the two teams found themselves in another back-and-forth scoring battle. Mackenzie LeVan opened up the side with a goal for the Cardinals, but Nazareth retaliated with two of its own. To combat that, Fisher scored two of its own to regain the lead. The two opponents would split a pair of goals again just under 10 minutes, with Fisher holding a 10-9 lead with 6:31 left in regulation. Mirroring the first quarter though, Nazareth scored a late goal to send it into overtime.

Johnson led the Cardinals offensively, recording five points (3G, 2A). She was aided by Jamie Wallace who had two goals and an assist.

On the draw, Fisher held a 14-9 advantage over its East Avenue rivals. Leading the way was Bollin, who controlled six on the evening,

Hayley Peets played the entire game in net for the Cardinals, racking up seven saves.

Women's lacrosse will return to action at 5 p.m. on Friday for another conference bout, this time with Hartwick College.
