PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – Nine different players scored at least one goal as the nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team cruised to a 19-2 win over Kenyon College on Wednesday at the Spring Fling in Port Charlotte, Florida. With the win, the No. 14 Cardinals improved to 2-0 while Kenyon slipped to 0-2 overall.
Fisher scored five quick goals over the game's first 10 minutes of play with
Jamie Wallace finding the back of the net twice in that stretch before Kenyon tallied its first goal with 20:06 remaining in the opening half.
The two teams would play without a score for nearly nine minutes before
Jordan Johnson broke the drought with an unassisted tally to give Fisher a 6-1 edge. Just over a minute later,
Cori Holbrook broke free and beat the Ladies' goalie on a feed from Johnson to make it 7-1, but the scoring didn't stop there as
Kelsie Schindler and
Maria Hristodoulou each notched unassisted goals before Kenyon could answer with a goal of its own at 5:28.
Kenyon's goal did little to slow the Cardinals, however, as Fisher closed out the first half with two more goals from Johnson and
Claire Bollin to hold an 11-1 advantage heading into halftime.
Coming out of intermission, Johnson staked Fisher to an 11-goal lead with a score just 43 seconds into the half. From there, the Cardinals closed out the game with seven more unanswered goals en route to the 19-2 win.
Johnson led all scorers with four goals and three assists. The senior attacker took seven shots and accounted for two groundballs and one draw control. Holbrook and Wallace each finished with four points on three goals and an assist while Bollin contributed three goals in the win along with a game-high six draw controls. Hristodoulou scored twice for Fisher.
Molly Rourke,
Mallory Eymer,
Morgan Young and Schindler each found the back of the net once.
Morgan Hayes started in goal for Fisher and earned the win after playing all 60:00 minutes between the pipes. Hayes allowed two goals in all and came up with two saves.
Fisher will look to make it three wins in a row at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday when it opens the home portion of its schedule against the University of Rochester at Growney Stadium.
