Women's Lacrosse Doubles Up Oneonta in Home Opener

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The No. 13 St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team downed SUNY Oneonta, 16-8, Sunday afternoon. With the victory, Fisher remains unbeaten, posting a 3-0 record. The Red Dragons drop to 1-2 on the year.

After allowing Oneonta to net the opening goal, Fisher answered with four of its own. Cori Holbrook, Mallory Eymer, Jordan Johnson and Jamie Wallace all cashed one in to give the Cardinals 4-1 lead. Oneonta would stop the bleeding with a goal around the 14 minute mark, but Fisher tacked on two more to follow that.

In the final 5:11, the teams would score two goals apiece, letting the Cardinals take the 8-4 lead into the intermission.

The second half was much like the first, with Fisher collecting eight goals and Oneonta four. Two of those eight came on nifty free position shots from Wallace and Holbrook.

Claire Bollin turned in a solid outing as her five goals doubled her goal total on the season. Johnson led the team in total points on the day, recording two goals and assisting on four others. In conclusion, six players registered multi-point performances.

On the draw, Holbrook led the way with six controls. She was aided by Abbie Reed who turned in three.

Hayley Peets played all 60 minutes between the pipes for the Cardinals, turning aside four Red Dragon shots.

Women's lacrosse returns to action at 5 p.m. on Wednesday as the team heads to William Smith College for a battle between nationally ranked teams.
