Women's Lacrosse Clips No. 14 Brockport on the Road

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse team downed No.14 Brockport, 13-9, at Bob Boozer Field on Wednesday evening. With the win, Fisher improves to 4-2 and also hands the Golden Eagles their first loss of the year (6-1).

Fisher opened up the contest with two goals from Cori Holbrook. The junior converted on a free-postion shot, follow by a goal that was opened up on a nifty spin move. Brockport answered back though scoring the games next four. Goals by Kelsie Schindler and Mallory Eymer would even it back up though and each team would net another before the intermission.

Coming out of the half, the Golden Eagles would break the tie with a goal at the 26:41 mark. But then Fisher would go on a tear, notching five-unanswered through the next 16:16 and increasing its lead to 11-7. The lead would hold as both teams notched two more in the game's waning moments.

Offensively, the Cardinals were led by Holbrook, who finished the day with four goals. She was aided by Jamie Wallace and Kelsie Schindler, who each registered two. Although she didn't score, Jordan Johnson also pitched in as she produced four helpers.

Hayley Peets got the start in net for Fisher, turning aside 11 shots in 60 minutes of play.

Fisher utilized the free-position shot perfectly as well as the team scored on all three of its attempts.

On the restarts, the Cardinals also had the edge as the team controlled 14 of the 24 tries. Hayley Maguire led the squad as she controlled three.

Women's lacrosse will return to action at 3 p.m. on Saturday as the team squares off aginast another nationally-ranked opponent in No. 10 Ithaca. Coinciding with the game will also be a support of national charity organization, "Donate Life America"
