CLEARWATER, Fla. – The St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse team suffered its first loss of the season Saturday afternoon, falling 6-4 to Clark University in the conclusion of the team's Spring Break trip. With the loss, Fisher now posts a 2-1 record.
It was a defensive first quarter as neither team could figure out the other's back line. The Cougars nabbed one with just 1.2 seconds left on the clock though, earning them the lead going into the second period.
Fisher would even it up just 1:36 into the following stanza thanks to a goal by
Andrew Rosso. Clark cashed in another late goal though, taking a 2-1 lead into the intermission.
The Cougars increased their lead in the third, scoring two just over a minute apart in the early goings. Fisher used a goal from
Nick Papayanakos on the man advantage to once again cut into the lead, but Clark ended the third with one more.
With the score 5-2 going into the fourth, Fisher attempted to mount a comeback.
Zach Wagner netted on under a minute in, using a nifty dodge to get open in front of the net. Fisher then got within one as
Drew Brown prevented a turnover on the clear and found
Andrew Rosso streaking towards the net for the goal. The comeback was thwarted though as Clark piled in two insurance goals in the waning moments.
In a game that boasted defense,
Matt Raap played well, causing two key turnovers.
Zakary Bussey also made his presence known as he scooped up four ground balls.
Tanner Swan played all 60 minutes in goal for the Cardinals, racking up 10 saves on the day.
Men's lacrosse returns to action at 4 p.m. on Wednesday with a non-conference bout at the College at Brockport.
