Baseball's Early Lead Unable to Hold Against Suffolk

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The St. John Fisher College baseball team fell, 11-3, to Suffolk University Friday afternoon at Lake Myrtle Baseball Complex. With the loss, Fisher moves to 4-3 on the season while Suffolk goes to 1-0.

After the Rams plated one in the top of the opening frame, Fisher was able to get the bats going on its end, but a few mistakes on the base paths denied the team any runs.

The Cardinals were able to score three in the second inning though, giving them the lead. Scott Eisenmenger led the side off with a walk and advanced to second two batters later as Malcolm Kelsey singled into left field. Thomas Pasquale loaded the bases up next as he reached first on an error by the third basemen. Victor Konstantinovsky then got the easy RBI as he was hit by a pitch in the next at bat. With the bases still juiced, Evan Ryan belted one to deep center that was caught but allowed Kelsey to score. Fisher then had runners at the corners and used a pickle play to score Pasquale. Konstantinovsky got the play going as he attempted to steal second while Pasquale took a healthy jump off third. The catcher threw to second and the return throw home was overthrown allowing Pasquale to score on the error.

The lead didn't hold though as Suffolk sprinkled runs over the next few innings and Fisher couldn't knock anyone in.

Antony Mantova finished the day going 3-for-3 from the plate with a double. Konstantinovsky also pitched in offensively, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Caleb Lee started on the mound for Fisher, pitching 2.2 innings and striking out two. He was relieved by Kyle Chambers who punched out four but picked up the loss. DJ Mendenhall, Matt Toohey, Loukas Brigham, Anthony Loussedes and Jonathan Schlesing all saw an inning or less on the hill as well.

Baseball returns to action at 6 p.m. tomorrow as the team will take on nationally-ranked The College of New Jersey.
