HOBOKEN, N.J. – The St. John Fisher College women's volleyball team fell to Nazareth College in three sets in the semi-finals of the Empire 8 Conference Championships 19-25, 16-25, 19-25. The Cardinals finish the season with a 22-9 overall record and a second straight conference tournament appearance. The Golden Flyers improve their overall to 21-12 on the season.
The Cardinals got off to a quick start in the first set rattling off four service aces to jump out to a 14-4 lead. Fisher held its own from the service line, only committing one error in the first set.
A Golden Flyer 8-2 run midway through the first set brought the score to a 19-19 tie. Nazareth finished the set on a 6-0 run to take the first set.
Anna Marcy and
Katie Mazierski both posted three kills in the opening set.
Nazareth jumped out to an early 8-2 lead in the second set with the help of three service aces. The Cardinals fought back to make it 15-11, however the Golden Flyers pulled away and took the second set, to take a two sets to none lead in the match. Marcy notched another four kills I the set to add to her total.
Back and forth action started the third set, with a 7-7 tie and two Marcy kills. Nazareth then went on a 6-0 with the help of three service aces and jumped to a 13-7 lead. The Golden Flyers maintained the momentum and took the third set and the match.
Offensively for the Cardinals, Marcy led the way with nine kills, Mazierski notched seven, and
Amanda Miller pitched in four. Defensively, Mazierski had nine digs, while Marcy and
Elise Kreuz each added six apiece.
Marcy was selected as the Cardinal's honoree on the All-Tournamanet Team.
