Men's Basketball Hits Century Mark in Win Over Houghton

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's basketball team hit the century mark for the second time this season, downing Houghton College 102-70 on Bobby Wanzer Court Tuesday evening . With the victory, the Cardinals win streak moves to seven-straight (all against Empire 8 opponents) and the team's record goes to 12-4 (7-0 E8).

Although the game opened up with a bit of back-and-forth play, Fisher took the early lead and never looked back. Just over six minutes in, the Cardinals took their first double-digit lead as Keegan Ryan converted on an and-one followed by a Dennis Hare 3-pointer.

Fisher would really begin to pull away at the 5:49 mark, going on a 12-0 run during the next three minutes. The run consisted of some good foul shooting with eight of the twelve points coming from the charity stripe. The Cardinals would close out the half with a 51-33 lead over the Highlanders.

The second half saw much of the same as Fisher worked to extend its lead. Sammy Robinson had a nice steal in the backcourt near the midway mark, turning it into a dunk for the home team. Nearing the end of regulation, the Cardinals converted a nifty inbounds play that finished with a lob pass from Tyler English to a soaring Ryan Henderson who slammed it in.

Fisher's final point total of 102 is the most the team has scored since a win over Alfred University in 2014.

Five players finished with double figures for the Cardinals, led by Henderson's career-high 18. Ryan (13), Jake Haight (12), Alex Sausville (11) and Hare (10) all pitched in on the effort as well. In all, Fisher ended with 12 different players scoring a bucket and a team shooting percentage of 55.2% (32-of-58).

Men's basketball will return to action at 8 p.m. on Thursday as the team heads across the street to take on rival Nazareth College.
