Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball Suffers Defeats on Day One of Tourney

The St. John Fisher College volleyball team dropped both of its matches on day one of the St. John Fisher College Invitational on Friday. The Cardinals played a tight match with Buffalo State, eventually losing 3-2 (23-25, 19-25, 25-21, 25-23, 15-12) before dropping a game to Baldwin Wallace University 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-13).

Game 1:
Despite the loss, Fisher controlled a majority of the match, topping the Bengals in nearly every statistical category. The Cardinals registered a season-high 57 kills, bettering Buffalo State by 19. The team also recorded 55 assists compared to the 33 put up by their opponent.

Anna Marcy topped all players in the kill department, posting 19 in the match. Amanda Miller chipped in 13 as well. In the final set, freshman Olivia Levulis played a big part off the bench as she earned all three of her kills then.

On the backline, libero Katie Mazierski led the team in digs with 21. Also digging double-digit balls were Elise Kreuz (12) and Marcy (12).

The team was also able to create a good block at the net, turning back six Bengal attacks. Marcy led the way again with four but had help from Candice Greer and Amanda Miller who tacked on three and two, respectively.

At the setter position, Phoebe Kane set a new season-high in assists, dishing out a total of 47 helpers.

Game 2:
Marcy continued to control the offense in the second match, adding 10 more to her day's total. Freshman Izzy Smith pitched in as well, posting a season-high eight kills.

Defensively, Marcy also handled the most digs on the night (12), while Mazierski and Kreuz, who switched positions, each recorded 10.

Fisher will resume tournament action on Saturday as it takes on Penn-State Behrend at 12 p.m. The team will then conclude the Invite with a 4 p.m. match against D'Youville College.
