Let The Games Begin!

St. John Fisher College Athletics will open up a new year with a plethora of action this weekend.

Eight fall sports will compete over the next few days, including home contests hosted by the field hockey, football, cross country and women's tennis teams.

Field hockey leads off theyear with its home opener against Skidmore College at 4 p.m. on Thursday. Fisher will look to keep to its winning ways as it has reached 12 wins in both of its last two seasons.

Also hosting its home opener at Growney Stadium this weekend is the football team, which will kick off with Olivet College at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

Women's tennis will travel to the College at Brockport on Friday as it squares off with the Golden Eagles for a 4 p.m. match. The squad will then travel home the following day to host Houghton in a conference match up beginning at 1 p.m. To view results for both matches, check athletics.sjfc.edu after each contest.

Both the men's and women's cross country teams will host its lone home race on Friday, with runners taking to the starting line at 6 p.m. Results for each of the races can also be found at the Fisher athletics webpage.


Travelling far west this weekend is the volleyball team, which opens up its season in California with the Pacific Coast Classic hosted by Pomona-Pitzer College. The Cardinals will open up the tournament on Friday with a match against the University of Redlands at 12 p.m. followed immediately by a bout with Neumann University. On Saturday, the team finds itself in a doubleheader again, this time beginning with a contest against host Pomona-Pitzer at 12 p.m. and then Whittier College directly afterwards.

Rounding out the heavy-slated weekend are the soccer teams, both of which find themselves in tournament play.

Women's soccer travels to New Jersey for the Kean University Tournament where it will take on SUNY Cortland at 4 p.m. on Friday. The team will follow that contest up on Saturday as it takes on host Kean at 4 p.m..

The men's squad will compete in the University of Rochester Flower City Classic, opening up play with a 5 p.m. Friday tilt against Keuka College. The team will then take on Kean University at 12 p.m. on Sunday.
