The St. John Fisher College softball team ended its historic season in a 6-0 loss to the University of Texas at Tyler on Sunday Morning.

This season Fisher set a new program record for wins with 41, surpassing the 1999 season that secured 39 wins under former head coach Len Maiorani. After taking its first ever trip to the Division III Softball College World Series, Fisher finished tied for third place in the nation.

Sophomore Pitcher Lindsey Thayer finished the 2016 season with 467 strikeouts, fanning 41 batters in 34 innings down in Salem. She set a new Fisher record for career strikeouts, passing the previous record of 426 in just her sophomore season.

Texas-Tyler hit two homeruns in the 6-0 shutout, the first coming off the first pitch of the second inning on a solo shot, and the second for 2 RBI as Fisher found itself in an early three-run deficit. The Cardinals put runners on in the second and third innings, but could not convert to lessen the Patriot lead.

Texas-Tyler would strike again in the fifth inning after stringing together four singles for another earned run. The sixth inning added one more for the Patriots on an RBI double, and another would cross the pate in the seventh on a single to centerfield.

The Cardinals tallied just three hits in the contest from Katie Mazierski, Sarah Kubik, and Jennifer Knaak.
