The St. John Fisher College baseball team used a six-run eighth inning to defeat Rochester Institute of Technology, 11-5, on Thursday afternoon at Fisher's Dugan Yard.
With the win, the Cardinals improve to 14-7 on the season, while the Tigers fall to 9-7. Fisher has now won six consecutive, with three coming at home.
The Cardinals drove in six runs on four hits in their half of the eighth all with two outs. After back-to-back fly outs to center, sophomore catcher
Victor Konstantinovsky walked and then moved to second on a single by junior
Evan Ryan. Senior
Cody Wiktorski singled to center to drive in Konstantinovsky, which gave the Cardinals a 6-5 lead. He later advanced to second as Ryan moved to third on the play. Â Junior
Jack Trotman worked the count to draw a walk and load the bases for Fisher. Senior shortstop
Mike Roman singled home a pair of runs to make it 8-5. Sophomore first baseman
Scott Eisenmenger turned on a pitch and parked it over the left field wall to cap off the scoring for the Cardinals.
Fisher jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before the Tigers tied in the top of the third. In the top of the sixth, R.I.T. scored three runs on four hits and error to make it a 5-2 game. The Cardinals chipped away at the lead as they scored a pair in the bottom of the sixth and one in the bottom of the seventh to tie it at five.
Kanstantinovsky finished the day going 3-for-3 with two RBI, two doubles and a run scored. Eisenmenger went 2-for-5 with three RBI, a home run and a run scored. Wiktorski, Roman and
Joe Simmons each had two hits and a run scored. The three of them combined for five RBI.
Freshman
Jim Dawson picked up the win to improve to 4-0 on the season. He allowed two walks and fanned one in his inning of relief. Starter
Dominick Pisciotto struck out four and allowed two runs (both earned) on five hits over three innings of work.
Fisher is on the road this weekend in its second Empire 8 Conference match-up as it faces host Utica College at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
