The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College softball program pushed its winning streak to 10 games on Wednesday, as the host Cardinals swept East-Avenue rival Nazareth College. Lindsey Thayer, who was named as the national pitcher of the week earlier in the day, pitched shutouts in both games. In the opener, Thayer struck out 15 and allowed just two hits in a 1-0 win. In the nightcap, Thayer fanned nine in a 2-0 win, raising her record to 17-1 on the year. Fisher returns to action at 5:30 p.m. on Friday at Houghton College.

Fisher took the lead for good in the second inning. After singles, from
Karlie Neale and
Danielle Ventrone, Neale scored from second on an RBI-single from
Kristina Balsano. Fisher added an insurance-run in the fifth. After a lead-off walk to Balsano,
Sarah Kubik singled to left-center to score the junior third baseman.
Thayer, who escaped unscathed after loading the bases in the fifth and seventh innings, notched her 10th shutout of the season, while raising her record to 17-1 on the year. She gave up just four hits and three walks, while striking out nine batters.
