The St. John Fisher College softball team dropped two games to the College at Brockport on Wednesday afternoon in a doubleheader at home.
Brockport 10, Fisher 7
Brockport set the tone of the game early, hitting a two-run homerun in the top of the second inning, in which the Golden Eagles would take the lead for good.
The Cardinals found themselves down 8-0 after a six-run fourth inning by Brockport, but began to chip away at the lead in the bottom half of the inning.
Karlie Neale reached base on a lead-off walk, and two batters later
Ashley Prince singled, sending Neale home for Fisher's first run of the game.
Katie Mazierski singled to start the fifth inning, as Neale walked again shortly after.
Sarah Kubik hit a double, scoring Mazierski, and on the ensuing play
Jennifer Knaak hit in both Kubik and Neale for two RBI.
In the sixth inning with the score at 8-4
Danielle Ventrone singled, and a
Kristina Balsano walk would put two runners on base for
Julia Sortisio, who singled to left field, scoring Ventrone.
The Cardinals would make one last effort to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh when Knaak hit a deep homer, sending home Kubik who got on base with another double, but the score would remain 10-7 through the end of the inning.
Pitcher
Halie Schoff had five strikeouts in the contest.
Brockport 3, Fisher 2
Brockport scored one run in the first inning, but Fisher would come alive in the fourth inning to take their first lead of the afternoon.
With three runners on base, Sortisio reached on an error, after which Ventrone and Prince would advance to home on the throw to put the score at 2-1 with Fisher in the lead.
Brockport tied it up with an RBI double in the sixth, and scored once more on an error at first base, keeping the lead for good.
Pitcher
Monica Moses struck out six batters.
Fisher is back in action at 3 p.m. on Thursday to take on Rochester Institute of Technology on the road.
