Nick Papayanakos tallied three goals against nationally-ranked Ithaca College, but it wasn't enough, as the St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse program dropped a 16-5 decision to the No. 11 Bombers on Tuesday at Fisher's Growney Stadium.
With the loss, Fisher falls to 5-6 overall and 2-2 in the Empire 8 Conference, while Ithaca improves to 11-1, 4-0.
Papayanakos gave Fisher the early lead as he scooped up a blocked shot and scored 2:01 into the game to put Fisher up, 1-0. Ithaca scored 13 straight goals before the Cardinals answered with back-to-back goals midway through the third quarter.Â
Matthew Condon scored a man-up goal (Fisher was an impressive 3-for-4 on man-up situations for the game) off a pass from
Dante Giordano.
Papayanakos scored a couple minutes later off a pass from
Gary Bova to make it 13-3 going into the fourth.
Andrew Rosso scored his 15th goal of the season with
Tim Wagner assisting in the opening moments of the fourth, while Papayanakos closed out the scoring with 4:43 left. Rosso assisted on the goal.
Junior
Tanner Swan made 14 saves over the first 55 minutes, while
Ricky Barton led Fisher with five ground balls.
Zakary Bussey and
Jake Clement each forced two turnovers.
Fisher will return to action at 3 p.m. on Saturday and will host Stevens Institute of Technology.
