Women's Lacrosse Rolls Past Buffalo State

The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College program allowed just one goal over the final 52 minutes and picked up a 16-3 win over visiting Buffalo State College on Wednesday in the Cardinals' home opener at Growney Stadium.

With the win, Fisher, who moved up two spots to No. 15 on Monday in this week's national coaches poll, improves to 3-0 on the year.

Fisher's Jordan Johnson scored two of Fisher's first three goals, as the Cardinals led 3-1 with 23:44 left. The Bengals, however, won the ensuing draw and scored 12 seconds later, pulling Buffalo State to within a goal at 3-2.

Fisher would score the game's next five goals to take an 8-2 lead and led 8-3 at the half.

Fisher's Kelsie Schindler scored the first two goals of the second half, and Mackenzie LeVan's goal with 15:03 left in period put the Cardinals up 10 and move the game into running-time.

Johnson led the Cardinals with eight points on four goals and four assists, tying her career high. Chrissy Cook totaled three points on two goals and one assist. Kaitlyn Agedal also scored twice. Jamie Wallace and Sierra Badger each finished with one goal and one assist. Carly Sullivan, Cori Holbrook, Molly Rourke also scored.
Hayley Peets stopped three shots to earn the win in goal. Abbie Reed led Fisher with four draw contorls.

Fisher will return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The Cardinals will host SUNY Geneseo, who is ranked 21st nationally. Fisher leads the all-time series vs. the Knights 5-4, but Geneseo has won the last three meetings, including an 8-7 overtime-win last spring.
