The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College women's lacrosse program opened the 2016 season with a convincing 18-2 win over Elizabethtown College on Tuesday in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.
Fisher, currently ranked No. 17 in the national coaches poll, improves to 1-0 for the third time in the last four years.
Fisher scored 10 straight goals over the final 20:01 to take an 11-1 lead at the half. Senior
Chrissy Cook opened the scoring for the Cardinals less than two minutes into the game, but the Blue Jays tied the game at 1-1 with 21 minutes in the first half.
The final 40 minutes belong to the Cardinals.
Sierra Badger scored just over one minute later to put the Cardinals up for good.  Badger and Cook each scored two goals in the first half, as did
Jordan Johnson and
Morgan Young, while sophomores
Mackenzie LeVan and
Lexi Peebles also scored in the first half.
Freshman
Olivia Marziale scored her first collegiate goal with one second left in the opening half.
The Cardinals added seven goals in the second half. Freshman
Molly Rourke scored two goals, while classmate
Jackie Picard also scored her first goal at the collegiate level.  Sophomore
Kelsie Schindler tallied her first goal of the season as well. Badger, Johnson and Cook also scored in the second half and each finished the game with three goals.
Johnson, Badger and Picard also picked up one assist. Badger led the Cardinals with four draw controls and three ground balls.Â
Cori Holbrook finished with a team-high two caused turnovers.

Hayley Peets stopped two saves to earn the win in net.Â
Molly Maguire and
Jenn Crater closed out the game in goal.Â
Fisher returns to action at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday in Puerto Rico. The Cardinals will take on University of Mount Union.  The Purple Raiders are receiving votes in the national poll and have been to NCAAs each of the last three seasons.
