The St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse earned a victory in its season-opener on Monday, as the Cardinals coasted to a 23-1 win over Lyndon State College on Monday in Clearwater, Fla.
It is the largest margin of victory by a Fisher team in the program's history (22 goals). The 23 goals are the second-highest for goals scored in a game, while the one goal allowed ties record for fewest goals permitted to an opponent.
Senior
Matthew Condon scored both goal in the first 59 seconds to get the going. He finished the game with five points on two goals and three assists.
Sophomore
Andrew Rosso tallied five goals and four assists, coming within one point of tying the Fisher single-game record for points.
Drew Brown scored a career-high four goals in the win, while
Gary Bova (two goals, two assists) and
Nick Papayanakos (one goal, three assists) also enjoyed four-point days.
Nick Costello finished the game with one goal and two assists.
Freshman
Glenn Roschetzky finished with one goal and one assist, while
Mitch Rein,
Alex Hunt,
Danny Turck,
Tim Wagner,
Dante Giordano and
TJ VanDeusen also scored.
Kevin O'Donnell and
Benjamin Stallman each won seven face-offs, while
Alex Goodermote added an assist and won five face-offs.
Tanner Swan earned in the win in net, making four saves over 30 scoreless minutes.
Justin Townsend made six saves to lead the team.
Fisher returns to action at 12 p.m. on Wednesday against Otterbein University. Otterbein, who has advanced to the NCAA Division III Championship each of the last three seasons, are led by former Fisher assistant Colin Hartnett.
