In a matchup between the top two team in the NCAA Division III East Region, top-ranked Alfred University scored 24 straight points and kept its perfect season alive, as the visiting Cardinals suffered a 38-17 loss on Saturday.
With the loss, Fisher, ranked No. 18 in the d3football.com national poll and No. 2 in the NCAA Division III East Region, falls to 8-2 overall and 6-2 in the Empire 8 Conference.  The Cardinals will find out on Sunday night at 6 p.m. if it has earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Championship.  Fisher received at-large bids in both 2011 and 2013 and advanced to the Elite 8 in NCAAs.
Alfred (10-0) is currently ranked 14
th nationally and earns the Empire 8 Conference's automatic bid.
Fisher took the game's opening drive 81 yards, converting three third downs and one fourth down with
William Coon scoring on a 21-yard pass from
Matt Naton.
The rest of the half, however, belonged to the Saxons, as Alfred took a 17-7 lead at the break.
Alfred added to the lead early in the second half, returning the opening kickoff 90 yards and converting for a touchdown three plays later.
Fisher answers right back though, driving 71 yards on seven plays with fullback
James Flagler scoring on a nine-yard pass on fourth-and-one to make it 24-14 with just over 10 minutes left in the third quarter.
After a 70-yard touchdown pass made it 31-14, Fisher drove 47 yards, but had to settle for a 33-yard field goal from
Devin Dzikowicz late in the third quarter to make it a two-possession at 31-17 late in the third.
For Fisher, Naton finished with 264 yards and two touchdowns on 25-of-45 passing. Â
Mike Collichio snagged nine balls for 50 yards, while
Dylan Harrington finished with five receptions for 63 yards.  Coon caught four passes for 57 yards before leaving in the first quarter with an injury.
Defensively,
David Carroll and
DJ Logory made 13 and 12 tackles, respectively.
