The St. John Fisher College volleyball team swept Houghton College 3-0 on the road Tuesday evening. With the victory, Fisher improves to 7-10 overall and 3-1 in the Empire 8 Conference. Houghton moves to 8-8 on the season (2-2 Empire 8).
Fisher got off to a quick start thanks in part to an eight-point service run by
Madison Karwas early in the first set. The team would steadily continue its offense over the next two sets, finishing with nearly double (42-24) the amount of kills produced by the Highlanders.
Aside from her serving, Karwas also led the attack at the net, recording a team-high 14 on the night. She was helped out by
Anna Marcy who nabbed 11, improving her double-digit kill streak to eight-straight matches.
At the middle block position,
Amanda Miller registered seven kills to accompany two blocks.
Phoebe Kane was business as usual, supplying the team with 37 assists.
On the back line,
Katie Mazierski dug 14 balls throughout the three sets.
Fisher will be back in action on Saturday as the team hosts a three-team E8 crossover tournament. The Cardinals will square off at 11 a.m. against Ithaca College before challenging Hartwick College at 4 p.m.
