Volleyball Finishes Regular Season with Split

The St. John Fisher College volleyball split its two games on its final day of regular season play, pushing the team's record to 12-19 on the season. The team went the distance in both matches on the day, downing Fredonia 3-2 (25-17, 10-25, 15-25, 25-13, 15-9) before falling to St. Lawrence University 3-2 (20-25, 18-25, 25-18, 25-17, 15-8) later on.

A high powered offense racked up its second-most kills of the season (53), helping the Cardinals down the Blue Devils. Three Cardinals finished the match with double-digit kills including a career-high 13 for Candice Greer. Anna Marcy (12) and Amanda Miller (11) also pitched in offensively.

To compliment a great offensive effort, the defense also turned in a solid effort. Jessica Simonetti donned the libero jersey, picking up 24 digs to set a new personal record. Katie Mazierski performed well in the back row as well, picking up 21 digs during the match.

Phoebe Kane was called to set all day as she racked up a total of 41 assists.

In the second game of the day, Marcy continued her offensive prowess, leading all Cardinals with 11 kills. Madison Karwas performed well also, collecting 10 total kills.

Simonetti also resumed her duties at the Libero jersey, adding another 18 digs to her 295 on the season.

Kane took over the setting duties once again as well, producing 27 helpers for the Cardinals.

Fisher will be back in action at 12 p.m. on Saturday as the team travels to Hoboken, NJ for the Empire 8 Championship. The Cardinals, who claimed the fourth seed in the tournament, will take on the top-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology.
