The St. John Fisher College field hockey team set the new program record for wins in a season as the team defeated Hartwick College 2-1 in the regular-season finale for both squads. With the win, Fisher improves to 16-2 on the year and can claim an undefeated conference record (8-0). The team also continues its win streak as it has now won a total of 15 straight.
After allowing the Hawks to take the early 1-0 lead on them, the Cardinals will able to right the ship with a tying tally right before the halftime whistle.
Lauren Fazio took a shot that was saved, but a juicy rebound was coughed up and
Gabby LaForce put the loose ball in the back of the net.
Emily Markarian was able to tack on the eventual game winner late in the second half. The junior received a pass from
Alexandrea Malley and proceeded to beat the keeper one-on-one to put the Cardinals up a score. The goal also gave Markarian her 44
th point of the season, breaking the school record of 43 that the Orchard Park, NY native set her freshman year.
Ashley Maynard manned the goal for Fisher, recording two saves on the afternoon.
Fisher will return to action on November 4
th as the team readies itself for the Empire 8 Championship. Fisher, which earned the No. 1 seed in the conference, will host the tournament at Growney Stadium. The Cardinals will square off against the Stevens Institute of Technology at 3 p.m. that day to kick off the post season.
