The St. John Fisher College volleyball program clinched the fourth and final spot in the Empire 8 Conference Championship with the Cardinals' 3-1 win over host Alfred University on Saturday night. With the win, Fisher closes out the Empire 8 schedule with a 5-3 record and will face top-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology on November 5th in the four-team single-elimination tournament with the winner earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship.
With the match tied at one game apiece, the Cardinals held on for a 25-23 win in game three and a 25-22 victory in the fourth and final set.
Junior
Katie Mazierski finished with a career-high 17 kills and just three errors to pace the Cardinals. She also led he Cardinals with a team-high 21 digs.
Amanda Miller and
Izzy Smith each tallied 10 kills and three errors, while
Anna Marcy added nine kills.
Phoebe Kane led her team with 42 assists, while adding 10 digs.
Jessica Simonetti (19) and
Elise Kreuz (15) each finished with double-digit digs.
Earlier in the day, Fisher dropped a 3-0 decision to Stevens.
