The St. John Fisher College men's soccer team clinched an Empire 8 Championship berth as the team defeated Utica College 2-0 on the road Saturday afternoon. WIth the win, Fisher improves to 3-2-1 in the conference and 5-7-2 overall. Utica moves to 2-12-1 on the season (1-4-1 E8).

The Cardinals got off to a hot start as Tyler Randall scored just 3:39 into the contest. Fisher was awarded a free kick outside the 18-yard box that Dallas Kaiser sent into the mix. Jake Gentile got his head on it first, deflecting it over to Randall, who finished the job. Fisher would take its one-goal lead into the half.

In the second, the Cardinals came out quickly again, this time doubling up just over 11 minutes in. Gentile earned the goal to go along with his earlier assist as he rocketed a shot from 10 yards out off a pass from Justin Ferron. Up 2-0, the defense locked it in and preserved the victory for Fisher.

Not tested too much, Joe Catalfamo recorded the win in net for Fisher, saving the sole shot the Pioneers fired at him.

Fisher will return to action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday for a non-conference bout with SUNY Geneseo.
