The St. John Fisher College women's basketball program won its ninth straight game on Wednesday, as the Cardinals came away with a 73-50 win at Alfred University.
With the win, Fisher improves to 14-2 overall and 7-0 in the Empire 8 Conference, while Alfred falls to 1-17, 0-9.
The nine consecutive wins marks the longest winning streak for the program in 10 years.
Senior
Bridget Carney led the way for Fisher, scoring a career-high 24 points, shooting 8-for-10 from the floor and 8-of-9 from the foul line.
Fisher opened the game with a 10-2 run over the first four minutes and led 30-19 at the half, despite shooting just 30.3% from the floor and 1-for-10 from 3-point range.
The Cardinals took control of the game early in the second half, as Fisher opened the third quarter with 14-2 run to take a 23-point lead and led 53-35 going into the fourth. Carney, who led Fisher with seven rebounds, score 10 points during the third quarter, including seven in the first four minutes.
Senior
Mary Kate Cusack finished the game with 13 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Emily Piacentini and
Maria Kelleher each scored nine points in the win, while
Alyssa Robens scored six.Â
Caroline Robertson tallied five rebounds and four assists.
Fisher returns to action at 6 p.m. on Friday at Stevens Institute of Technology. Both Fisher and Stevens are tied for first at 7-0 in the Empire 8 standings.
