St. John Fisher College's
Keegan Ryan became the 22
nd player in the 53-year history of men's basketball to score 1,000 points, as the junior tallied 23 points in Fisher's 73-64 win at Alfred University on Wednesday.
With the win, Fisher improves to 12-4 overall and 6-1 in the Empire 8 Conference, while the Saxons fall to 7-11, 3-6.
Ryan, who grabbed nine rebounds in the game and ranks sixth at Fisher in career rebounding with 630 boards, scored 14 in the first half, going over the 1,000-plateau with just over three minutes left on a 3-point-play to put the Cardinals up 30-22.
Ryan would add another 3-point-play in the closing moments of the half, as Fisher led 37-28 at the break.
The Saxons would pull within two points at 37-35 after opening the second period with a 7-0 run, but Fisher would answer with a 12-1 spurt over the next six minutes to take its biggest lead of the day at 13 points (49-36) with just over 11 minutes left.
Alfred pulled to within five with less than three minutes to go, but Fisher sealed the game at the foul line, connecting of 7-of-8 free throws over the next two minutes.

Tyler English each finished with 13 points. Senior
Chaz Lott totaled six assists, five rebounds and four points, while classmate
Tyler English added five points and five assists.
Tyler Farrell collected seven points and four rebounds, while
Zach Ottaway chipped in with six points and six rebounds.
Fisher returns to action at 4 p.m. on Friday at Stevens Institute of Technology.
